Hot-Dip Galvanizing
Steel industry and its applications are one of the fast growing
industrial, Despite the fact that steel is a metal of vital
importance and has many applications exceed those of any other
metal, it is the most affected among other metals by environmental
conditions which lead to a serious problem i.e. steel corrosion is
considered to be very high (0.05 to 0.12 mm per year) there is an
urgent need to employ methods by which steel can be protected from
premature damage. Here, the most practical and economical method to
prevent steel structure from corrosion. Galvanizing is the method of
coating steel with a protective layer of zinc. 65-70% of the zinc
produced globally is utilized only for galvanizing purpose.
ECONOMIC ADVANTAGE:
A standard coating lasts up to 25 years even in industrial, urban or
marine atmosphere and resists many chemicals, water and building
materials. Zinc corrodes only 3 to 10% as fast as steel in air and
the rate of corrosion is known for many types of atmospheres so that
a confident pre-planning of maintenance can be predicted.
GALVANIZING STANDARDS:
- ASTM A-123
- BS – 729
- Any other international standards
